Clay shop - material quality

DSC_0736.JPG

As we visited a clay shop in Jocotenango, we had a chance to photograph their raw material and their required grade for clay crafts. the refining process is done by hand, and is very tedious and time consuming.

El tejar - brick and tile making

DSC_0668.JPG

A typical brick and tilemaking shop in Chimaltenango. they extract the material from the ground, and they have to refine it by hand (breaking the material into smaller chunks) and then work it with their feet to make the clay. as we noticed, preparing the material takes them considerably more time then actually making the roofing tiles or bricks.
